A Wander in the Woods

This morning was a beautiful morning.  Pop and I took a walk in the woods and looked at all the spring forest floor plants.  It's wonderful to be able to name a plant or animal- almost as if through naming we become connected to it.  I thought I would share that with you, so here is my little guide to the forest floor.  I hope that you can enjoy this tiny field guide and can go out into the woods to make a few new botanical friends.

One of the most stunning spring plants is trillium, which is unforgettably dramatic with its bright crimson flower and mottled leaves.

There is also trout lily on the forest floor.

If you think of a trout leaping out of a stream, you can really see the resemblance.

And this little plant is called lady print.  Personally, I think it looks like there is a little thumbprint on each leaf.....each leaf blessed by the finger of God.

Ooh, and here is Jack in the pulpit.  Another very dramatic plant.  The top leaves curl over to protect the cupped flower underneath.  Isn't that neat?!

What a beautiful spring!  If you take the time to look closely at the world around you, you can find so much variety and so much beauty!

Quel printemps spectaculaire!
