Adventures with Mom & Pop Part 2: The Butcher's Daughter

Image
Would you like to come along on another of our family adventures in NYC!  Let's head off to NOLITA for lunch at The Butcher's Daughter.  What could possibly be better than a vegan restaurant in an old meat packing plant?! It was nice and warm and very cozy inside.  Lots of greenery as well as camaraderie as diners sat together along the long, wooden table in the center of the dining room.  We squished into the corner and enjoyed a long and leisurely lunch.  Mama Mersy declared that the daily special was the best corn chowder she had ever had!  I agreed! Mr. Mersy enjoyed the avocado toast as well as a roasted beet and quinoa salad- aren't the colors spectacular?! Our lunch warmed us and gave us energy to explore Soho and Central Park!  I wish we could all share our meals together every day! ~Mersydotes

Adventures with Mom & Pop Part 1: The Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Image
Hi folks!! Mr. Mersy and Penny and I have just had a wonderful week visiting with with Mama & Papa Mersy! They flew out to visit us here in the Big Apple, and we spent the week having all the different New York experiences you can imagine!  With Mama & Papa Mersy visiting, this crazy city felt like home!  It just goes to show that people and family are the most important thing in life. On Tuesday, we headed off on the subway to go explore the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.  Although the wind was damp and frigid, and the skies were overcast, the oasis of green among the high-rises and highways still showed some signs of spring.  All of the trees were budding, including the magnolias and the witch hazel.  And there were snow bells galore all throughout the lawns.  We saw these little beauties in the Shakespeare garden. Still, it was a chilly day to be out an about without a jacket! We enjoyed the shelter of the green houses where the plants were riotously verdant.

Spring?

Image
Why, is that a bit of sunlight filtering through the fire escapes and into our living room window? And are those fresh, peachy tulips that Mr. Mersy brought home? And...are those gorgeous blooms welcoming the early days of spring? Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~Mersydotes

Bright & Bold: Citrus Crochet

Image
These might be the most beautiful photos ever to be posted on the Mersydotes blog!  Mama Mersy is an amazing photographer, and she recently turned her artistic talents to photographing Fiesta ware paired with citrus and crochet- an outstanding combination! Aren't these photos absolutely breathtaking? Mama Mersy had specially requested a set of cotton potholders in bright colors to match the lovely ceramic birds that she had brought back from Mexico a few years back and which have inspired her Fiesta ware color scheme. Lime, lemon, orange, sea blue, and hibiscus pink, all of these colors are clean, crisp, bright, and ever so slightly tart! It was so much fun to team up together to create this loveliness, and I am thrilled that Mama mersy is pleased with her new potholders.  Thank you for these gorgeous photos!  They are a wonderful bright spot in my day! Love, ~Mersydotes
