Thanksgiving Blog Fest Part 3!!!

Image
Welcome everyone!  Are you ready to have your eyeballs absolutely swept off their feet by these gorgeous moments submitted by Mama Mersydotes? One thing that Mama Mersydotes always taught me is that we can see the infinite mysteries of the universe if we take the time to look closely at parts of nature that at first appear small to the naked eye. Can you smell the warm, spicy summer smell of the prairie?  Can you feel the fresh air and hot breeze?  Can you hear the drowsy buzzing of the insects?  I can, and it feels soooo wonderful! What can I say?  Sleepy puppies on pillows leave me speechless : ) Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful moments! ~Mersydotes

Welcome friends!  Yesterday we peeked into M's good moments, and today we'll celebrate the ones captured by Z.  He is actually M's "media naranja", so it's only right that Z's photos come in part two of our Good Moments Festival! Aren't these great?  Daily moments freshly seen for the sparks of life they contain- thank you Z for sharing these with us! ~Mersydotes

Thanksgiving Blog Fest Part 1!!!

Image
Hello wonderful peeps!  Welcome to November- a time for thankfulness and mindfulness here in the Mersydotes corner of the blog-o-sphere.  As we make our way towards Thanksgiving, I want to take a collective pause, a bit of a calming breather, and share with you all the wonderful contributions that I received from family and friends for the first annual Good Moments Blog Fest.   Lots of wonderful people in my life took the time to photograph ten special moments that made them happy, mindful, and thankful throughout their days.  This month, we are going to celebrate those beautiful moments!  To start us off, today we'll share in M's special moments from Illinois: Dragon beans, fluffy clouds, and a rat terrier curled up in the sunshine.  Beautiful.  M says her day was: I hope your day is also a collection of good moments.   ~Mersydotes

Crochet Cafetiere Cozy & Coffee Memories

Image
I chose this title for its alliterative properties, but you could just as easily call this project a French-press hug.  Or a coffee sweater.  Or a pot smock.   It's a little collection of red and white granny squares made from summery cotton hemp.  It reminds me of summertime, warm mornings, gingham, and bare feet. Hopefully, it will help to keep my morning coffee warm while I poke about from the shower to the kitchen, having a sip here, a sip there, never quite finishing a whole cup, but desperate for the first sip as soon as I wake up. It closes at the back with two crochet buttons- just twelve stitch circles sew together for strength.  I must admit- making the buttons was my favorite part! Even if I just have a sip in the morning, it's the whole process of coffee making that's special to me.  When I was growing up, every morning I would make my mother a cup of coffee after I got ready to go to school.  I'...

Autumn Arrives in the City

Image
There is a definite chill in the air these days throughout the mighty city. I was worried that an urban fall would pale in comparison to a Midwestern autumn, but I've been really surprised by how very present the seasonal change has been even among the trash strewn streets and vermin filled trains. Mr Mersy and I felt the need to escape Queens big-time last weekend, so we packed up Penny in her travel box and hopped the train to Central Park on Sunday afternoon.  I breathe such a sigh of relief every time we pass through the park gates. It's our refuge. The trees are already turning colors. Our ancestors sitting on the leaves in their war paint watching over us. We found a wee squirrel's stash- I used to dream of living in a little tree knot like this one when I was wee.  Actually, I still dream of living in a little tree knot.  Just like David the gnome.  I would wear a pointy red had and a dandelion yellow dress, and sleep in a bed of maple leaves. Granny-glam crochet earring holder

Image
Hi folks!  I've fallen so far behind in bloggaling (that's a combination of blogging plus journaling)  that I don't even know where to start. So, before I do a nice, long, cathartic catch-up post about autumn in Queens, I thought I'd go back to my roots and do a tah-dah crochet post.  Want to see what's popped up in our bathroom recently? The faithful granny square has come through again, this time in blue and white size three cotton crochet thread. I used a three mm hook and edged the completed square with a single crochet border. Easy peasy!  Dare I say lemon squeezy? I think it gives our little bathroom a certain shabby chic boho gypsy glam vibe, if such a thing exists! I wonder if my sister-in-laws need one?  I'd love to try out cream with green or pink accents : ) Lots of love, ~Mersydotes

Snow in Manhattan- A New Embroidered Postcard

Image
Look!  It's snowing in Times Square!  Bit early, don't 'ya think?   Mr. Mersy brought this postcard home for me to embroider from the exotic world of Midtown Manhattan last week- thanks babe! Lots of love, ~Mersydotes
