Scenes from Saturday

Image
Wow- the sky was glorious today!  Warm in the afternoon, cool evening breezes, September at it's best! It was the perfect afternoon for Mr. Mersydotes, Penny, and I to sit outside and enjoy the day.  We had some tea, and I did a bit of experimental crochet (more on that later!). The little pin cushion in the picture above is a recent addition to the meta crochet arsenal (meta crochet = crochet pieces created in order to be used for further crocheting!).  It was surprisingly fast to stitch up, and I like the simple design very much.  It just took a bit of leftover cotton hemp, some scraps of fabric, and stuffing.  Shazam!  You can find the tutorial here . Then, we had a game of bacci ball- Penny really wanted to chase after the balls, but they proved to be much too big for a tiny puppy! Hope your Saturday has also been filled with blue skies and puppies! ~Mersydotes

Crochet Hexagon Cusshion

Image
Hi guys!  Do you remember these lovely colors and the hexagons I was making? Well, two hexagons turned into eight! And then eight hexagons turned into a nice big cushion!  I think it will be perfect for sitting  on or for back support while working at the desk!   The pattern is from Simply Crochet magazine, and I used Caron Simply Soft yarn with a G- hook.  I really enjoyed the geometry of it, and it has been fun to learn how to make other "granny" shapes like circles, triangles, and hexagons! See ya later, ~Mersydotes

Flower Frames

Image
So often, it is the simplest of the simple that creates the most pleasant aesthetic, and I've had fun recently experimenting with bits of cloth, stray buttons, and tiny rounds of crochet- so simple!  Here's what I've come up with: Here are the framed flowers in all their different color combinations: Green & White Blue & Pink Yellow & Purple   Red & White I hope that all of these blooms have brightened your day! Now I just need to find a little place to hang these...I wonder where.... ~Mersydotes

Button Bouquets

Image
Happy Saturday peeps!  Today is such a  wonderfully crisp and cool sunny day here in Mersydotes Land.  We've got the windows open, and little Pen is lounging in the sun rays- a perfect early fall morning! When I saw the sunshine this morning, I felt like taking some pictures of a tiny project I've been working on recently.  A while ago, I had seen pictures of button flowers and bouquets and was hooked! Here's what's been blooming in our neck of the woods: They looked so dramatic in the early morning rays!  Shadows in a button forest!  Here are their glamor shots: A bit later in the day I took some more photos with gentle light- not quite so dramatic, but you can see the colors a bit more clearly: These were very simple to make- would you like to try?  First, paint some spools white, then wrap the middles with washi tape.  Use jewelry wire to put the buttons together and twist the strands together to make the stems.  At first I wasn't sur

Crochet Flower Ring

I do believe that wearing one's crochet is simply the height of fashion, and I simply had to share this fabulous accessory with all of you darling readers! A few little crochet flower rings with a bit of sparkle in the middle. Seeing them while I type at work makes me happy! Soon I will post my pattern in case you would like to adorn your fingers with Mersy Blossoms!  (Great name, eh?!) All the best dressed crochet bloggers are wearing them this season! ; ) ~Mersydotes

Last of the Tomatoes

If tomatoes could sing.. . ...this would be their swan song. The last of summer's bounty. ~Mersydotes

A Lovely Wedding Day

Image
What a wonderful way to wrap up the weekend- a beautiful wedding and a day spent with wonderful people.  The colors were sea foam blue and pale rose, and the décor was shabby-chic vintage. Lots of floating candles in tea cups and glass vases added to the quaintness and gentleness of the décor. The luncheon platters were amazing!  Fruits and vegetables were arranged in autumnal themes like the cornucopias below. Isn't this little gourd basket adorable?! And beautifully carved vegetable flowers: The cake was not only delicious, but so beautiful with delicate white flowers and vines, and dusky pink roses. Here are the centerpieces at our table-fairy lights and roses!   A beautiful day, but most of all beautiful company! ~Mersydotes

Penny's Saturday

Image
Hello my friends!  How was your Saturday?  Mine was very lovely.  It started with going to the park with Mama and Papa. We walked along the beautiful prairie path until we came to our garden plot.  Mama puts me inside the wire fence and then lets me off my leash so I can roam around and explore our veggies.  Look what I saw: Isn't that a beautiful gourd?!  It's called a dipping gourd, and we harvested two more that were much bigger than this one.  I think Mama will share pictures of those with you soon.  After Mama and Papa watered and weeded (it had been quite a while, I can tell you!), we continued our peaceful walk and saw something really amazing!  That evening there were beautiful hummingbird moths flying about the prairie.  They really did seem like birds, and we were able to observe them feeding on the purple aster flowers.  As they hovered, we could even see their long tongues drinking the nectar.  Very beautiful! After we returned form our walkie
